department/unit: Laboratory of Topography (LabTop), School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
services: Specialized training (Lifelong Learning Course, entitled "Introduction to Methodologies and Procedures for Underwater Surveying"; Summer schools) Research activities (topographic surveys; photogrammetry; 3d recording - modeling. cartographic documentation; web-mapping; spatial data management)
previous experience: The research object of the Laboratory is to develop methods and devices for surveying buildings, monuments, objects and the general area. Specifically mentioned some examples of participation of faculty members of the Department of Geodesy and Surveying of School of Rural and Surveying Engineering in research projects, studies and innovations. In particular they have surveyed a large number of monuments and archaeological sites within and outside of Greece (Macedonia, Churches and Monuments of Thessaloniki, Monasteries of Mount Athos, Crete, Peloponnese, Aegean Islands, Albania, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Italy, Japan, etc.). Also they made in the past setting outs and certified for the accuracy in concrete structures. Finally, together with all forms of academic research centers both domestic and foreign institutions, developed research programs in related fields of Science Laboratory field. LabTop supports teaching and research activities, involving at least thirteen courses of the Undergraduate Program, five courses of the Master's Program "Geoinformation" of School of Rural and Surveying Engineering (specialization " High Precision Topographical Applications"), many of which require laboratory infrastructure (use of instruments, measurements) and three courses of the Postgraduate Program of the Faculty of Engineering entitled "Protection, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Monuments". In the last five years, and throughout the period of the last thirty years, they have been developed dozens of dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate level and applied research level.
